The Naked Gun 2 Movie Review
The Naked Gun 2 is a 1991 comedy film directed by David Zucker and starring Leslie Nielsen. It’s such a good sequel that is as strong as the original.

Awfully big moustache“

Frank is on a mission to find a scientist promoting solar energy who has been kidnapped. In the process, he meets his former girlfriend and realizes that her new partner is involved in the conspiracy. I actually liked this movie even more than its predecessor. Most would say that it’s inferior, but I would say that it’s superior due to funnier gags and a third act that was actually fun instead of the baseball slog that we had before.
Yes, the tone of the movie and the characters are all the same, but franchises should retain their key ingredients when they work, which is exactly what they did here. The end result is a hugely entertaining flick that is at its best in silly dialogue. Some of the lines cracked me up as they were so ingeniously unexpected. The visual gags also worked as the film utilized the cinematic medium to its fullest effect to deliver laughs.
The slapstick was quite strong too, and in some instances it was better than in the original, especially in the case of O. J. Simpson’s character, who got one amazing car sequence that was so well constructed. These types of scenes reminded me of Looney Tunes in the best way possible. The movie is very silly and stupid and it may be too cartoony for its own sake, but it’s undeniably funny, so ultimately it really worked.
Leslie Nielsen was reliably terrific in his deadpan delivery and fun buffoonish behavior. He was the scene-stealer here. Priscilla Presley was as charming as ever and the sex scenes between the two were very amusing. George Kennedy was a bit sidelined in this one, though he still got a couple of fun moments. Robert Goulet was a fun villain while Richard Griffiths stole the show among the supporting cast in such a playful dual role that asked a lot from him physically.

The Naked Gun 2 has a wildly entertaining third act that was a true blast to watch. It had numerous ridiculous scenarios piled on top of one another and most of them made me smile. The movie’s plot is dumb and the dialogue is at times too ridiculous, but the movie is funny, so it’s a successful example of its genre.
The Naked Gun 2 is just as good as the original and maybe even better. The first movie had that annoying baseball-centric third act while this one ended on a much more entertaining and funnier note. The plot is as dumb as always, but the acting is uniformly strong, the characters are fun, most of the slapstick gags worked, and the dialogue is delightfully silly. The standout here is Leslie Nielsen expectedly so while Richard Griffiths impressed the most of the supporting cast.
My Rating – 4
