One of Them Days Movie Review
One of Them Days is a 2025 buddy comedy film directed by Lawrence Lamont and starring Keke Palmer and SZA. It’s a surprisingly strong flick.
When her boyfriend takes her rent money, Alyssa and her roommate race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact. We live at a time when comedies are all but extinct in Hollywood, so I will take what I get honestly. This film is one of the rare studio comedies in recent memory as I cannot really remember when was the last time we got one of these. Thus, I am always going to be more forgiving when it comes to rare genres.

With that being said, there is no reason to be forgiving as the end result is a damn good movie on its own right. It has its flaws, but it made me laugh numerous times and if a comedy makes you laugh, it’s successful. The highlight here is the dynamic between the two protagonists that is playful and fun, but also genuinely sweet. They made for such a fantastic buddy comedy pairing.
SZA is a singer, so the fact that she managed to deliver a genuinely good comedic performance was very surprising. Hopefully, she gets more roles in the future as she deserves it. Alyssa is a lot of fun and some of her lines cracked me up. But naturally Keke Palmer is the main star here and she was fantastic. Her Dreux is such a likable character that is easy to root for and it was a great choice to give a happy ending to these two as it made for a refreshingly joyous ending. Palmer has excellent comedic timing, strong line delivery and terrific facial expressions. She’s great.
The movie also benefits from a plethora of memorable supporting characters. All of these people got little to do, but they still made an impact. The junkie that has a heart of gold is a wonderful addition to the cast, the rich white girl is genuinely sympathetic and the gangster villain is quite amusing. The men were just love interests and they were the weakest of the bunch, but they still served their purpose.

One of Them Days features an extremely familiar plot of these women having to find money to pay their return until they are evicted from their home. This is so been there, done that as in comedy movies getting quick money has been a staple trope for a very long time. The movie is also not that technically accomplished, though the countdown lettering was a solid choice. But the dialogue is so good, the characterization excellent and the situations genuinely funny that the flick largely worked.
One of Them Days is a big studio Hollywood comedy and those are such a rare breed these days that I would be prone to be forgiving just to support this tragically dying genre. But there is no need to be forgiving as the end result was a genuinely good movie that largely worked. The familiar plot aside, this is a stellar comedy flick that made me laugh on a consistent basis. The main buddy comedy dynamic between Keke Palmer and SZA is genuinely terrific and you root for them to succeed, which is why the happy ending really clicked in this instance. It’s a flawed movie that doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’s a blast to watch.
