Presumed to be dead, Jason wakes up at the hospital and kills the doctor and the nurse before moving on to Camp Crystal Lake. When his killing spree begins, the Jarvis siblings decide to end things. The last movie in this franchise was so bad that this sequel actually ended up being serviceable. It’s of course nowhere near the quality of the original, but it’s similar to the quality of the second movie in my opinion.

The plot is tiresome of course and there is nothing that happens here that was in any way, shape or form original or truly memorable. With that being said, the characters elevated this sequel quite a bit, especially the main duo. I really liked Trish and Tommy. Their sibling dynamic was powerful and that final sequence was just a whole lot of fun.

Jason being mercilessly slashed and killed by this kid made for an instantly iconic conclusion that elevated the entire movie for me that was before that quite uninspired. Seeing his deformed face was also memorable and so was that entire third act with the chases, the stabs and the final kill. I just wished that the rest of the film was as interesting.

Other characters were forgettable, the slasher scenes were far from creative, and the movie lazily repeated the sound and score from the previous flicks. The first half simply needed to have been better and more engaging. The film is also overly dark and uninspired in its cinematography while the dialogue and directing are both quite mediocre.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is a fine sequel that was superior to the previous one. This film has a pedestrian first half, some forgettable characters and a weak plot, but the main sibling duo was strong, Jason was very good here, and that third act was immensely entertaining and memorably graphic. It’s such a good ending that it elevated the entire movie for me that was before that quite mediocre.
