Wendy saves her friends’ lives when she has a premonition that the rollercoaster they want to go on will crash. However, each person in the group starts to die under mysterious circumstances. This sequel is pretty much similar in quality to its predecessor. It’s nowhere near as good as the original, but it at least is well acted and has one good scene that is the beginning.

The opening set at the roller coaster was a lot of fun and once again we have a FL movie that has a terrific opening sequence that sees diminishing returns from that point onward. The previous film had an even more memorable opening, so that’s why I ultimately preferred it over this one.

Where Final Destination 3 really worked is in the protagonist that was played so well by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in some of her first roles. She showed here a lot of potential and it’s a shame that she continues to receive little work in Hollywood when she’s such a talented actress. She sold her character’s emotional anguish so successfully and she blew Ryan Merriman out of the water. The other characters are even less memorable.

The first half of this flick worked, but the second half was rather underwhelming. It failed to include a more memorable or imaginative plot as it felt like a retread of everything that came before. It lacked ambition and was too simplistic in both character count and set pieces.

Final Destination 3 is an okay sequel that is pretty much on par with its predecessor. Just like that film, this one also has a stellar opening sequence and it derails from that point onward. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was excellent in the main role, but others are forgettable and its plot is pretty much a retread of what came before.
