Child’s Play 3 Movie Review
Child’s Play 3 is a 1991 slasher film directed by Jack Bender and starring Justin Whalin and Brad Douriff. It is the worst entry in this franchise.

Killer doll Chucky is back after eight years and now he is trying to possess another boy. Andy, Chucky’s previous victim, is the only one who knows this and tries to stop the evil doll. This entry had nothing to offer as it’s very by the numbers in its plot and terribly lazy in its execution.
My main issue here was the role of Andy. Justin Whalin was fine in the role, but the character was forgettable and it was simply not necessary to make Andy older. A better approach would have been to focus on an entirely different character. It was clear that the writers were so lazy that they just put him in the film to connect it to the previous two installments. It didn’t work.
The only good thing about this very poor movie is Chucky of course. He is always great and he was a lot of fun here. He got some excellent lines of dialogue that were reasonably amusing and Brad Dourif’s voice is still terrific. But everything else here was a misfire.
The entire story is so messy that it annoyed me to no end. The beginning was absolutely ludicrous. How Chucky was revived was especially laughable in this particular story. The characters are forgettable, especially Tyler, who got an unreasonably prolonged role.

The worst offender in Child’s Play 3 is that third act decision to focus extensively on the school’s annual war games. I guess the filmmakers tried to put some anti-war message here, but it rang hollow and it did not fit this franchise whatsoever. It was just pointless. The slasher sequences are serviceable, but hardly scary or memorable.
Chucky is as always fun and memorable in Child’s Play 3, but everything else surrounding him was terrible in what is the absolute nadir of this franchise. The storytelling was beyond messy with the first act being ridiculous and the third act being rather odd. None of it worked and it was all awfully lazy.
My Rating – 2
