Matt Walsh transforms himself into a certified diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) expert, only to uncover a world where profit, not principle, drives the agenda. This is the second feature film from DailyWire and the first to actually be released in theaters. There was a significant backlash and even silence when it was released as major movie critics refused to review it, which just goes to show how unprofessional and brainwashed these critics today are. We should all be professional as audiences and critics and support all voices, even those from right-wing media and those outside of the Hollywood system, and not shut them down.

This is one of those docs that is more important than truly great, so I am very much in the middle of the pack when it comes to my thoughts on the final result. Most audiences gave it either the highest or the lowest score dependent on their political views, but if we are all honest to ourselves, we would realize that this movie isn’t great or bad, but just in the middle. He as a filmmaker made numerous flaws here, but he also showcased evident strengths, especially in his dialogues.

So yes, the DEI should be abolished and all of these people should be stripped of their titles and should lose their jobs after this release. It was a no shocker for me that in a capitalist country that is the US even these activist organizations are driven by greed and not by principles or a desire for real change. The movie is, thus, crucial in exposing not just these activists for the grifters that they are, but also showcasing the dangers of white guilt and how it has plagued American society for the last decade or so.

Crucially, Walsh actually goes out of his way to expose both white and black DEI activists and to depict both followers of their toxic movement and the more regular people in other parts of the country that don’t even know what DEI is and aren’t knowledgeable about this ridiculous and actually racist lingo. These moments served as a respite from all the Hollywood craziness as it showcased that these supposedly racist white people from the South are actually more tolerant and less racist than the liberals from blue cities.

I’d watched the trailers for Am I Racist? before seeing the film itself and I saw some of the best clips from it, so it was a disappointment to witness that the majority of the best stuff was already shown to us beforehand. Walsh has a very solid deadpan delivery and the fact that he actually tricked these “experts” into believing him speaks volumes of his knowledge about the subject. He didn’t just look the part with that ridiculous and wig that he wore, but he also very much managed to successfully get into their brains and made a fool out of every single one of them.

But the problem of the movie is that everything that isn’t concerned with those stellar dialogue scenes wasn’t all that strong. Walsh decided to include himself breaking plates, fake crying and making ridiculous points and it is in these scenes that he tried a bit too hard to make a ‘Borat’ movie for a different audience. But the movie didn’t need those extra scenes as just letting these hacks spew garbage out of their mouths was just enough for the point to get across to viewers. The ending itself also felt a bit too unsubtle whereas the rest of the movie was much more nuanced in its approach.

Am I Racist? Movie Review

Am I Racist? is a film that was pretty much ignored by Hollywood and major film critics, which just goes to show how brainwashed and unprofessional this entire system is. It’s the type of movie that either got the highest or lowest ratings from viewers depending on their political views, but in actuality it’s neither bad nor great, but just solid. Matt Walsh has a certain deadpan delivery to his dialogue that really worked, but the doc functioned best when he just let these “experts” talk and make a fool of themselves while the added jokes and gags felt superfluous. It’s an uneven mockumentary for sure, but one that was entertaining throughout and crucial at exposing not just the white guilt that has plagued American society for a decade, but also these activists who are just grifters profiting off of people’s good intentions.

My Rating – 3.5
