Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver Movie Review
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is a 2024 space opera film directed by Zack Snyder and starring Sofia Boutella. It’s another mediocre movie in this ridiculously limp franchise.

A colony on the edge of the galaxy fights for survival against a tyrannical ruling force, relying on the efforts of a small group of rebels. I did not like the first movie at all, but this one was maybe even worse than the original, which really says a lot. There are so few of the things that worked here and so many that simply did not.
What worked here, then? Well, Boutella made for a solid action heroine, though her arc remains underdeveloped and rushed. The effects are also solid and some of the scoring I quite enjoyed. There are a couple of scenes that achieved that epic space opera feel that Snyder was clearly going for, but unfortunately those moments came very sporadically.
What did not work is everything else. The action is repetitious and numbing. It hurt my eyes, ears and brain watching this movie that is hectic from start to finish. The characters are thoroughly underdeveloped and lacking in purpose. Their arcs were the most standard victim arcs that you can think of.

This second Rebel Moon movie also lacked the memorable villain scenes that the first one at least had in abundance. The third act was bombastic and horrendous while only the first third was not as uninteresting or as frustratingly fast-paced as the remainder of the movie. The story did not work for me at all and it was both familiar and rushed. It’s crazy to me that Snyder is trying to make more of these movies. It seems that he has zero self-awareness of his work.
The second Rebel Moon movie might be even worse than the original. The bombastic action, frenetic pacing and terrible characterization were its main issues while the poor, overly familiar plot and a tiresome third act did not help matters either. Snyder is planning to make even more of these movies, which just goes to show that he has zero self-awareness of his work.
My Rating – 2
