Headhunters Movie Review
Headhunters is a 2011 Norwegian thriller film directed by Morten Tyldum and starring Aksel Hennie in the main role. It is a standard genre movie.

I’m 5’6″ tall, and you know what?
That’s more than enough“

Roger, an art thief, tries to steal a valuable painting from Clas, an ex-mercenary. Soon, he finds himself in a precarious situation and learns that his wife may be involved with Clas. Based on the book by the iconic author Jo Nesbo, the movie is your typical thriller vehicle that is only meant to entertaining and nothing else.
But I personally did not even find it to be all that entertaining. That is because the extensive twists and turns got on my nerves very quickly. Not only are they sensational in nature, but a bunch of them are implausible and introduced for the sake of having as many twists as possible.
But the main issue I had with this one is the lack of emotion in any of its storytelling. The protagonist is superbly played by Aksel Hennie, but he is the type of unlikable, punchable dude that I could never relate to, let alone sympathize with him. The movie, thus, did not have a heart and it sorely needed one.
Others fare even worse as no matter how unlikable the protagonist is, at least he was well developed, but all the other characters are only there for plot purposes with the women faring the worst in terms of importance and personality.

Headhunters is slickly made, there is no denying that. It is very well shot, well scored and solidly directed by Morten Tyldum, who would go on to make much better movies for Hollywood. It has its fun moments and superb action set pieces, but it is just not for me as a I am not a fan of crime thrillers, and certainly not those who never elevate their premises into anything remarkable.
Headhunters is a pedestrian thriller that has some superb action set pieces and it is slickly made overall, but it has way too many twists and turns, making its plot both sensational and implausible. It also has no heart as its protagonist is extremely unlikable and I did not care about him or anybody else in the movie.
