Final Destination 2 Movie Review
Final Destination 2 is a 2003 supernatural horror film directed by David R. Ellis and starring A. J. Cook and Ali Larter. It’s a passable sequel.

Kimberly has a vision of a freak accident that takes place on the highway she is travelling through. She manages to save herself and a few others, but Death hunts them down for escaping their fate. I really enjoyed the original film, much more than I’d thought I would. But the sequel is quite inferior, though it still has its high points.
One highlight is obviously that opening car crash sequence. This scene was so epic, so ridiculous and so bombastic that it undoubtedly worked as a fun piece of action horror pop corn entertainment. The imagery here was so outrageously ludicrous and gory that it will stick with viewers for sure.
It’s a shame, then, that the rest of the movie was nowhere near as memorable as that one scene. It has a couple of hilariously twisted and crazy death scenes, but no truly great set pieces. The movie also failed to include a solid, well thought out plot, paling in comparison to its much better crafted predecessor.
Cook and Larter were quite mediocre in their bad performances and weakly written roles. This movie needed someone like Devon Sawa to pull it through the finish line desperately. Not one performance appealed to me here and the characters were so poorly written and lame. Thus, I did not care when they died or were endangered.

Final Destination 2 is at its best when it’s focusing on the crazy death scenes and complicated scenarios. The campiness and silliness on display was remarkable. But it is at its worst when it’s trying to develop its rather mediocre plot and characters with the dialogue being quite pedestrian too. The same goes for the direction, but at least it was well shot and edited.
Final Destination 2 has a killer car crash sequence that was peak popcorn entertainment. It is at its best when it’s focusing on ridiculously contrived and complicated death scenes. But it is at its worst when it focused on its poorly constructed plot and characters. It’s a fun movie, but one that needed better performers and directing, thus feeling quite inferior to the original.
My Rating – 3
