Yankee Dood It (1956)
Yankee Dood It Review
Yankee Dood It is a 1956 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very weak short.
The King of the Elves comes to help a failing shoemaker industrialize through the doctrine of industrial capitalism. Obviously, this short is thematically sophisticated. However, sophistication never equals entertainment, not necessarily at least, and here that was unfortunately the case.
The animation is good and Elmer is the highlight character-wise, but Sylvester is surprisingly forgettable and the short is never funny whatsoever. Rumpel is entirely underutilized as a character and more could have been done with this fairy tale element. The effects on the transformations are pretty neat, but the fantasy wasn’t felt ultimately.
