Wrestling Wrecks

Wrestling Wrecks Review

Wrestling Wrecks is a 1953 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid flick.

Woody watches a big wrestling match on TV, but eventually he goes to see it in person and somehow becomes involved in the ring itself. This is one of the many boxing cartoons produced in the Golden Age of Animation, so it felt very familiar and uninspired in its concept. Woody got involved in the match way too late in the game to make a more significant impact.

I actually preferred the first half where he just watched the match and cheered. The advertisements annoying him was the comedic highlight of the short. Those moments were both very funny and very endearing. The second half is fine, but it could have been so much better overall. The animation and narration are both excellent here.

Wrestling Wrecks has a weaker second half, but a strong first one. Woody is great here and the narration is fun.

My Rating – 3.5
