Woody Dines Out Review

Woody Dines Out Review

Woody Dines Out is a 1945 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a very good short.

Woody goes out to dine, but he stumbles across a taxidermist. He wants to stuff him, so Woody makes him pay. This is yet another Woody Woodpecker cartoon that showcased his extreme hunger and an affinity for stuffed birds that is darkly ironic. These movies definitely have that maniacal and disturbing edge to them, something that even Looney Tunes did not have, at least not in quite the same fashion.

My issue here lies in the third act that is somewhat standard. The elevator sequence is quite fun, but I would have liked to have seen more inspired gags overall. The movie felt rushed in that section as well. With that being said, the taxidermist is a solid character and Woody is at his most unhinged here. The beginning where he drools over stuffed animals is particularly memorable and crazy.

Woody Dines Out is such a fun cartoon that has a very dark edge to it. It has its flaws, but Woody being so unhinged produced amusing results.

My Rating – 4.1
