Who Scent You? is a 1960 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is another strong Pepe Le Pew cartoon.

Pepe le Pew mistakes Penelope the cat for a skunk, so he chases her onto a cruise ship to woo her. The first half of this short is standard. We’ve seen similar scenes before and most of the gags are only solid. But the second half is where the best gag comes in and that is the finale.

Basically, Penelope thinks she finally escaped him, but there he is on a ship with her and there is nowhere to run. It’s one of the most suggestive and darkest endings for this series so far and certainly one that social justice warriors would not tolerate today, but for this era this was funny and it still most definitely is. The animation is also gorgeous and the movie has that charming quality to it in style, score and voice acting that define all of these soothing Pepe shorts.

Who Scent You? is weaker in the first half, but the second one is more memorable and the ending is great while the animation is wonderful throughout.
