What’s Sweepin’ Review
What’s Sweepin’ is a 1953 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a very solid movie.
Woody is a city street sweeper. He gets abused by Wally Walrus, so he disguises himself as a policeman to get revenge. This is a rare movie where Woody has a job and he was so damn adorable wearing that sweeper uniform and cleaning those streets. The beginning is such a great sequence.
The rest of the cartoon turned into a fight between the two rivals and the ending was frustrating as Woody should have won. He was a victim in this instance, so I rooted for him. That entire final sequence made no sense within the context of the story. But the circus was otherwise well utilized and Wally’s policeman status was also well used for humor. I also loved the score here that is quite classical.
