What Makes Daffy Duck (1948)
What Makes Daffy Duck Review
What Makes Daffy Duck is a 1948 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is very strong.
Finally we get a very good Warner Bros. short in 1948 after a couple of lackluster efforts preceding it. This one follows Daffy Duck as he tries to escape both Elmer Fudd and one persistent fox. The fox I honestly found to be underwritten quite a bit as the movie was way too fast for proper characterization of him to take place. The first act is also the least interesting one, but later on the movie becomes highly entertaining.
Particularly the final couple of minutes are superb and they showcase Daffy’s signature craziness and brisk dialogue. He returned to form here and was hilarious throughout with his final cocky line being so funny. The short is action-oriented, fast and continuously amusing with the scenarios mostly being terrific in both ideas and execution.
What Makes Daffy Duck is worthy of its title as it explores pretty well the sheer craziness of our screwy duck character.
