Watch the Birdie (1958)
Watch the Birdie Review
Watch the Birdie is a 1958 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty forgettable entry.
Deep in the woods, a birdwatcher is studying the various bird species found there, but when he discovers Woody, he gives him all sorts of troubles. How in the hell did they not do this premise before on this series? A birdwatcher interacting with a crazy woodpecker should have been done before and here it should have been a slam dunk. But it wasn’t sadly.
I did appreciate its solid animation, a fine bird watcher character and a couple of stellar gags. The opening with the other birds singing was also serviceable. But most of the second half was rather forgettable in its action scenes. Those were pretty solid, but nowhere near as exciting or as memorable as they should have been.
