Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories #3 Review

Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories #3 Review

The third issue of Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories was published in 1940. This was an inferior issue to the original one.

The stories section was forgettable with the exception of Don Donald. That story was short, but sweet, featuring a wonderful usage of Donald and one very stubborn donkey that was quite amusing. This is how these stories should function – as small character arcs and funny sidekick pieces.

Donald’s one-page comics are not all that memorable here, though they are well illustrated. The illustration work on this comic was lovely and featuring excellent color palette. Mickey’s last comic centering on one ostrich and a race was quite amusing and perfectly solid.

The highlight of this entire issue has to be the ghost storyline starring Mickey Mouse. This is the one story that made reading this otherwise uninspired issue worth it. The illustrations were wonderful here, the character moments fantastic and the overall storyline was imaginative while being quite funny too. It’s a great mixture of fantastical and comedic storytelling that is a perfect fit for Disney comics. The entire ghost affair being so detailed was quite funny.

Overall, this third issue of Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories has one great story, but otherwise it was forgettable and uninspired.

My Rating – 3.6
