Uncle Donald’s Ants Review
Uncle Donald’s Ants is a 1952 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a pretty solid flick.
Donald spills some sugar on his sidewalk and soon the ants have complete control of his house. This is yet another short that pits Donald against insects, this time against these red worker ants who are obsessed with sugar. As somebody who once had to deal with a similar infestation of ants, I did relate to Donald’s plight here. The movie was at its best in that stellar beginning that was so much fun.
I loved his line where he called one ant “fellow” and actually helped him carry sugar on his little body. Then he proceeded to be reminded of his cuteness and I adored that moment. It showed how Donald has a big heart actually. But the second half became standard stuff with uninventive scenarios and tiresome gags. The first half was such a good setup that it deserved a better conclusion.
