Trombone Trouble Review

Trombone Trouble Review

Trombone Trouble is a 1944 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very odd cartoon.

During the night, Pete annoys the gods Jupiter and Vulcan as well as his neighbor Donald with his late-night trombone sessions. The gods decide to give Donald powers to teach Pete a lesson. This cartoon got a very good premise right off the bat with Donald wanting to teach Pete a lesson, but it quickly diverged from that concept into an overly complicated narrative with Roman gods.

The animation is stellar, the storyline is quite imaginative and the movie is ambitious, but maybe too ambitious for its own sake, forsaking humor in the process. I wanted more of Pete and less of those fantastical elements. This movie deserves praise for its originality, but minus points go to its lack of laughs.

Trombone Trouble has a very interesting premise and strong animation, but a lack of humor hurt it in the long run.

My Rating – 3.5
