Tree for Two (1952)
Tree for Two Review
Tree for Two is a 1952 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak flick.
Two dogs unite together for a common cause – to catch a cat. The cat is Sylvester himself. Yes, this is another short where Sylvester was unfortunately thrown into, and he deserves so much better. He is at his best with Tweety, and otherwise he continually got weak supporting players.
These two dogs are your standard dog duo – one is annoyed and serious, the other is annoying and talkative. Though they are amusing in some moments, most of their banter felt quite unoriginal as many other previous entries in this series had already done this banter up to this particular point. I did like the animation, and some scenes are definitely very entertaining, but the authenticity is nowhere to be found here unfortunately.
Tree for Two has its moments, but it is entirely unoriginal in its characters. Sylvester was not well used here at all.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE “Tree For Two.”
For me, it’s one of the funniest Sylvester cartoons to date. Sure, Sylvester was underutilized but the cartoon was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS in it’s portrayal of the quite ferocious black panther on the loose and it’s interactions with Spike.
Whenever the panther is in the scene my classroom (school kids) and I laugh hysterically. For us, the panther steals the show. Awesome cartoon !!!
Glad to hear that. Thanks for commenting!
