Top Ten Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Episodes
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ran on Netflix from 2015 to 2018 through four seasons and fifty two episodes. Throughout its run, the show got some truly iconic episodes and here are ten best ones.
10. Kimmy and the Beest!
The criticizing of the Disney classics bothered me, but overall this episode is hilarious in the parts featuring Fran. He is a funny, stupid fragile man and Kimmy beating him up was truly hysterical. It’s one of the most memorable scenes of the entire show.
9. Kimmy Finds Her Mom!
I really liked this episode for not vilifying Kimmy’s mom, but still not empathizing fully with her. Played so well by the great Lisa Kudrow, this character entirely worked and the scenes between the two felt complicated, realistic and quite moving.
8. Kimmy Bites an Onion!
This is a very strong finale of the third season that ended in a very satisfactory manner, much better actually than the last season ended. Kimmy is very funny in her physical comedy here while Titus trying to get Mikey back was super cute and endearing.
7. Kimmy Fights a Fire Monster!
This episode is so overstuffed, but literally all of it worked. Titus’ fake date was brutal, Kimmy having a moment with Donna Maria was wonderful and Jacqueline and Lillian pursuing younger men was so amusing. The show fired on all cylinders at this point.
6. Kimmy Walks Into a Bar!
Starting to deal with Kimmy’s trauma from the bunker, this episode is quite important. It is at its funniest, however, in the scenes between Deirdre played by Anna Camp superbly. She is a hilarious character. Jacqueline and her as rivals led to many funny moments.
5. Kimmy Goes to a Party!
Kimmy Goes to a Party! is one of the best episodes of the first season as everything here worked so well. The highlight is Kimmy pretending to be British as Kemper truly shines in those Cinderella-like sequences.
4. Kimmy Is a Feminist!
Kimmy is a Feminist! is brutally honest in its depiction of the new wave of feminism and how utterly ridiculous it may seem to regular people. I liked the show’s uncharacteristically un-PC approach. The other subplot with Titus acting straight to help out Jacqueline was quite amusing.
3. Kimmy Rides a Bike!
Kimmy Rides a Bike! is truly hysterical in the courtroom scenes as Jon Hamm is by far the best guest character on the show so far. How he plays everybody with his charms was perfectly realized and he was impeccably cast. Tina Fey and her partner are also very funny in their incompetence. The bike subplot was resolved in a very crazy, memorable fashion too.
2. Sliding Van Doors
Sliding Van Doors is awesome. This is one of the best episodes of the entire show and probably its most original storyline. Imagining their different pasts and thus futures, but seeing the similarities in all the characters was an ingenious move. The episode is super long, but all of it was hugely entertaining and superbly written.
1. Kimmy Goes to Church!
Kimmy Goes to Church! is an utter delight! I loved the skewering of church practices, but also how Titus and Kimmy deal with this surrounding was so funny. Even better is the Lillian/Jacqueline storyline. She gives Lillian a makeover, but eventually the roles are reversed. Simply seeing the two switch their appearances was hilarious. It’s by far the best and most purely enjoyable episode of the entire show, the one where the entire foursome excelled.
