Top Ten She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Characters
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a show that has its problems and its strengths, but the highlight has to be its characters as they are all very strongly developed, so much fun and very well written, especially in regards to their dynamics with others. This is my list of ten best characters on this show with some honorable mentions.
10. Swift Wind
I know that many hate this horse, but I really like him. He is hilarious in his bitchy attitude and very amusing one-liners. My issue with him is that he was backtracked and received very little screen time, but overall he was much better than most give him credit for.
9. Horde Prime
Horde Prime was very menacing and clearly powerful. He was built up strongly and he served as a solid foil for the heroines in the final season, but overall he was a bit disappointing as he was intriguing at first, but we did not get any major fights with him.
8. Entrapta
Although way too silly and energetic at first, I’d come to appreciate this character later down the line. In particular, her turning to the good side was powerful and her friendship with Hordak is truly heartwarming.
7. Shadow Weaver
The first villain of the series, but later a good guy, Shadow Weaver got very strong development in the later seasons. She was very cool and menacing at first, but then she became this wonderful friend to Catra and Adora both. Her death was very sad.
6. Bow
Bow did not get as much attention as the other two in the main trio, but his endless optimism and good-hearted nature were infectious. He is such a great guy that it is difficult not to like him and he is such an amazing friend to both Adora and Glimmer.
5. Glimmer
I really like Glimmer. She is the most relatable and flawed of the trio and her interactions with Bow and Adora were both very complicated, but ultimately wonderful. She is probably the most realistic character on this entire roster.
4. Adora
She is of course powerful and iconic as She-Ra, but on her own Adora is just as good. Although we’ve seen her struggles portrayed in previous similar shows, I was glad to see a strong development for a hero instead of the usual one-note characterization.
3. Scorpia
It took me a while, but I’d come to really care for Scorpia eventually. In fact, I liked her so much that it was a bit problematic seeing her not get Catra at the end romantically speaking. Scorpia is this butch lesbian with a heart of gold and the juxtaposition of her looks and personality was very clever.
2. Hordak
Although a full-on villain at first, Hordak eventually turned against Horde Prime in a powerful, emotional scene. His friendship with Entrapta was wonderful and he worked for me as both a good guy and an imposing villain.
1. Catra
By far the most complex, fascinating character on this entire show has to be Catra. Her allegiances constantly changed, her drive is incredible and she got some great fighting scenes, but obviously her complicated, tumultuous relationship with Adora is the heart and soul of the series.
Honorable Mentions:
Double Trouble – A non-binary character done for the sake of diversity, Double Trouble still worked as he/she was very important and menacing.
Sea Hawk – Though clearly very silly and cartoony, Sea Hawk is so entertaining and a delight at times.
Mermista – Mermista is this princess with a very bad, bored attitude. Her line delivery was fun while her relationship with Sea Hawk was very amusing.
