Top Ten Pokémon

I have never played other Pokémon games besides Pokémon Go so I cannot comment upon thm. And even though I love the aforementioned game, this Pokémon list is mostly going to focus on the anime alone as the series gives the creatures storylines and personally leading to memorable entities/characters in their own right. So here are ten finest Pokémon in my opinion.

10. Magikarp

Although underutilized later on, Magikarp was continually used as a fantastic running gag as the most useless of all Pokémon. The gag where James was repeatedly tricked by a salesman to buy one of these stupid creatures was one of my faves.

9. Togepi

Although this little guy did not get much to do and was mostly just there to be cute, what a cutie he is! By far one of the most purely lovable and endearing Pokémon, this baby was an exceedingly sweet companion of Misty’s.

8. Chikorita

The most overused creature on this list is Chikorita, but she was still so cute and so tough and brave that I did not mind it too much. She’s by far Ash’s most loyal, most fierce even capture and some of the moments between the two were quite moving.

7. Chimchar

One of the rare newer Pokémon on this list is Chimchar as this monkey deserves the seventh place just for bringing us for once a tough, emotionally heartbreaking and exhausting storyline for Ash. So well done.

6. Totodile

Totodile is hilarious. He’s a fantastic part of Misty’s roster and the one character in this list who was the most rude and reckless and thus I loved him even more. Such an energetic, appealing crocodile creature.

5. Charizard

The tough, never easily controlled Charizard is the rare part of Ash’s roster who gave him problems as he was so opposed to being ordered around. I loved that a lot and I also really admired this entire journey Ash had with his original Charmander.

4. Wobbuffet

Another useless creature after Magikarp on this list is Wobbuffet who is a part of Team Rocket and the silliest one at that. I loved his constant urge to be included and the fact that the trio ended up loving him despite being annoyed by him was heartwarming.

3. Psyduck

You can see the pattern emerging now as I do love me some funny Pokémon and Psyduck truly is the king of comedy. This is another ridiculous, pointless animal who can be quite powerful, but is mostly just dumb and witnessing Misty’s frustration with him was amusing. She did love him though.

2. Jigglypuff

This pink ball of energy is also immensely funny as he followed the original hero team constantly and I loved his each and every appearance. His singing was great and charming and whenever the guys fell asleep afterwards, he would paint their faces in such funny fashion.

1. Pikachu

Now this is of course an incredibly clichéd, but still right choice as nobody can go with another one. Though a bit cloying and way too good natured and too much of a leader, Pikachu still proved to be such an unforgettable character in his own right and a wonderful friend to Ash. Their relationship truly is frequently touching. And of course just the design is irresistibly cute as is his endearing voice.

Honorable Mentions:

Snorlax – Snorlax appeared not too often, but was always welcome as this big sleeping giant with a huge stomach. And he’s such a great gym defender in Pokémon Go.

Treecko – Treecko was underutilized, but he got quite a bit of development in a couple of episodes where he had to prove himself.

Bulbasaur – Bulbasaur is the iconic Pokémon character that is memorable in look, but not particularly memorable otherwise and thus this low on my list.

Pachirisu – This newer Pokémon is pretty funny and seeing this energetic rabbit hop around and give a great smile was always cute.

Greninja – Although Ash’s training of Greninja was brutal and powerful, it was essentially a rehash of his previous journey with Chimchar and thus taking the lower slot on my list.
