Tomcat Combat is a 1959 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a weak short.

Woody Woodpecker is engaged in combat with a big tomcat and after several escapades, Woody finally tricks the cat into a dogcatcher’s truck which is filled with dogs with a sour disposition, especially regarding cats. This is another odd cartoon in this series that introduced a new one-off character that was ultimately forgettable and didn’t add much to the table.

I still prefer having animals over people for Woody’s rivals, but this cat was only slightly amusing and not all that funny. The movie had a couple of fine gags and pretty good animation. Woody was reliably energetic and crazy. But fun humor and memorable storytelling were missing here.

Tomcat Combat was the first 1959 Woody Woodpecker short and it was a forgettable one. It had its fine moments, but overall it was weak sauce.
