Timber Review

Timber Review

Timber is a 1941 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a solid short.

Donald tries to steal food from lumberjack Pete’s table. After catching him, Pete forces Donald to work cutting down trees. This is another Pete and Donald pairing and once again it doesn’t quite work, but it does produce some amusing results. The highlight was Pete getting angry at Donald, but not managing to do anything about it. The final rail sequence was way too long for its own sake and it was ineptly and poorly scored, but it was so well animated and executed in its action that it mostly worked.

The woodcutting scenes were fun albeit repetitious too. I found the animation to be excellent here – polished and gorgeous. Donald is very amusing in the hobo appearance and him singing a song at the beginning was so endearing. Pete was very memorable too, but again both of these characters work much better when they aren’t put against each other.

Timber is a very well animated and fun flick, but one that felt repetitious in some of its gags and not all that memorable.

My Rating – 3.5
