Thrills and Chills (1938)
Thrills and Chills Review
Thrills and Chills is a 1938 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty solid cartoon.
Betty Boop and Pudgy take the train to a ski resort and find themselves being swept away over a waterfall. They get rescued by an amorous moron. This movie is weird in a sense that it tries to be both a Pudgy and a Betty cartoon. It doesn’t fully work, but at least seeing more of Betty in a late entry in the series was refreshing.
The plot is weak and the moron character was ridiculous and too stupid in design and behavior. But Pudgy was cute as always and Betty also was memorable here. The highlight is the movie’s adventurous tone and gorgeous animation as the snowy landscapes and thrilling downward slope made for such a wonderful adventure.
