The Wise Quacking Duck (1943)
The Wise Quacking Duck Review
The Wise Quacking Duck is a 1943 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very funny short.
This is one of the most purely crazy and energetic Looney Tunes so far. A man goes out to look for a duck to roast it for his demanding wife, but when he encounters Daffy, he torments him throughout the cartoon. Now, I did not like the fact that Elmer or some other known character wasn’t used and instead somewhat forgettable, boring Mr. Meek is the protagonist. That was not a great choice.
But still, he is serviceable and this is Daffy’s short through and through. Rarely has he been this crazy and following his madcap behavior was very entertaining in this particular short. The animation and score are good, but it is the action that’s fantastic along with a couple of excellent lines of dialogue. The “nude” sequences are particularly brave for its time and him talking to Mr. Meek is the highlight for me here.
The Wise Quacking Duck has a weaker protagonist, but Daffy is hilarious how insane he is here. The action and dialogue are both superb too.
