The Wacky Wabbit (1942)
The Wacky Wabbit Review
The Wacky Wabbit is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a terrific flick.
Elmer Fudd goes to the desert to look for gold and he encounters Bugs Bunny there who of course screws with him throughout the cartoon. Yep, the usual stuff and I loved it. This is actually the first Bugs Bunny cartoon that is nostalgic to me as I clearly remember seeing it as a kid and loving it. I share the same admiration today as an adult because it truly is a strong (for some reason Merry Melodies) entry which isn’t truly funny and somewhat lacking in the second half, but it’s still very strong.
The animation is great and I loved the use of its setting with the skull being particularly memorable. The score is also excellent with Oh! Susanna being so well used. Of course the humor is strong and the setting, particularly the holes, is so well utilized for laughs. Fat Elmer is great and Bugs has a couple of terrific one-liners here. The comedic highlight is the corset moment which is unexpected and so funny.
The Wacky Wabbit is so well animated and scored with particularly strong, comedic interactions between Elmer and Bugs.
