The Village Smithy Review

The Village Smithy Review

The Village Smithy is a 1942 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very weak short.

Donald is working as a blacksmith fixing an iron rim in a wagon wheel and putting a horseshoe on the donkey Jenny, having trouble with both. This is one of the weakest Donald Duck shorts due to it not being all that funny. In fact, none of the scenes made any comedic impact and they felt overlong and dull.

The movie also has this yellowish tint to it that I did find to be rather odd. It gave the movie a different look, but I don’t know if I liked it to be honest. Donald is okay here, but the plot itself is beyond slim and the gags were all mediocre. The movie was in despite need of more energy in its execution.

The Village Smithy has an odd look to it and very weak gags. Couple that with a slim plot and you’ve got one of Donald Duck’s least successful outings.

My Rating – 3.2
