The Village Smithy (1936)
The Village Smithy Review
The Village Smithy is a 1936 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a flawed entry.
Basically this is a Porky Pig entry where he is the apprentice of a blacksmith and the entire cartoon follows the mayhem that Porky causes while doing his job. That is the problem of this movie in a nutshell – too much chaos, not enough story of characterization. I would have been fine with all of that mayhem if it was funny, but it was mostly not in my opinion.
But at least Porky is as likable of a hero as he usually is and the voice acting here is truly excellent. The same goes for the score which is solid and the animation which is especially accomplished as it utilizes on its premise and setting so well with excellent imagery and strongly execution action sequences.
The Village Smithy looks and sounds good, but is too chaotic for it to really work unfortunately.
