The Unbearable Salesman Review

The Unbearable Salesman Review

The Unbearable Salesman is a 1957 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty good short.

Woody is a salesman, trying to unload his wares on a hibernating and irritated bear. After a string of lackluster entries, this is finally a return to form for the series. This is one of the better Paul Smith-directed Woody Woodpecker shorts as it benefits from a familiar premise very well executed. The energy is palpable in its execution and the dialogue is excellent.

The bear is quite endearing and you easily root for the poor guy to find some peace against the annoying Woody. The ending is quite fun and the scenes set at the bed were my favorite ones as they were so cleverly constructed. The animation, score and sound are all strong. This setup is not an original one, but because the movie was so well made, it managed to elevate it to greater heights.

The Unbearable Salesman is a return to form for the series thanks to a very well executed setup and a couple of stellar gags.

My Rating – 4
