The Unbearable Bear (1943)
The Unbearable Bear Review
The Unbearable Bear is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid effort.
This one stars Sniffles the mouse who is here per usual very talkative, but hardly annoying. He doesn’t get the biggest screen time which is interesting. Other characters get more to do and the short focuses extensively on the comedic antics of burgling. Although the mouse wasn’t that present and the action was overwhelming, the short is still charming enough that it works.
The animation bothered me as it’s not up to the studio’s usually phenomenal output from 1943. The score is also rather forgettable. The humor is solid, though. And the same can be said for the characters who are quite memorable and the dialogue which is also quite good, albeit not great.
The Unbearable Bear is technically lacking, but is overall a solid Merry Melody with some fun scenes, solid characterization and a good premise.
