The Timid Toreador (1940)
The Timid Toreador Review
The Timid Toreador is a 1940 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very weak entry.
As the title suggests, this short is set in Mexico where Porky Pig is a toreador. He somehow gets the bull to go away and the townspeople lavish praise on him. That’s basically it here and although there is nothing wrong with the plot itself and the Mexican setting is unique for the series, the execution is so bad that the cartoon ends up being a chore to sit through.
It is dull, uninteresting and although certainly well animated, the short is so boring even for its short runtime. That is because it doesn’t have any laughs or gags to present whatsoever and the characters are all forgettable including the bull and the Mexicans. Porky, though, is pretty good and his final Oliver Hardy impersonation is amusing.
The Timid Toreador has a good ending, but even though Porky is fine here, the film is uninteresting, weakly executed and with almost no quality gags.
