The Simpsons Season 14 Review
The fourteenth season of The Simpsons is the weakest season so far. It has its strong episodes, but most are very subpar.

“Dad, we weren’t playing Pictionary.
That was an intervention to stop your drinking“

Treehouse of Horror XIII is not among the better Treehouse of Horror episodes, not by a mile. The second segment is way too forgettable. But I did like the Dr. Moreau segment and the highlight is the clones storyline where Homer gets so many clones of himself. It’s something that the creators surprisingly had not done earlier, but it was a joy to sit through and he was the perfect choice to get cloned. How I Spent My Strummer Vacation is among those tiresome music episodes, this time centering on rock. It’s mediocre.
Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade is far from being original at any point as we’ve seen stuff like this before, but still Bart and Lisa getting their moment to shine and their relationship getting a spotlight is always nice. Large Marge is undoubtedly entertaining in its premise with Marge getting huge breasts, but it was ultimately a one-joke episode through and through.

Helter Shelter is utterly forgettable while The Great Louse Detective is a fine Sideshow Bob episode, but not among his best ones. That’s the thing with most of these episodes – they are just serviceable. Special Edna sees Skinner propose to Edna and it was wonderful as I have always loved this couple. The Dad Who Knew Too Little is one Homer doesn’t know his daughter well enough episode too many.
The Strong Arms of the Ma is that episode where Marge gets another phobia, but here she also gets ripped for some reason. It’s both ludicrous and annoying. Pray Anything is a fine religious episode, but far from great. I did like Barting Over as it emphasized on Homer and Bart’s relationship sweetly. I’m Spelling as Fast as I Can is a spelling bee episode and it’s pretty tiresome throughout.
A Star Is Born Again is another Ned Flanders dating episode, and this one is overly celebrity-driven and simply uninspired. Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington is another annoying Krusty episode. C. E. D’oh is a solid power plant episode, Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky has its moments, but is overall not that memorable, but Three Gays of the Condo is one of the best, funniest episodes of the season. This utterly gay installment is very amusing throughout in its gay references and characters, and Homer is very likable here.

Dude, Where’s My Ranch? is such an annoying episode with a badly utilized setting, Old-Yeller Baby is a forgettable dog episode inferior to others of its type, Brake My Wife, Please is another marriage episode that is uninspired in plot, The Bart of War is one of those episodes that feature way too many subplots and all are too silly, but Moe Baby Blues is a wonderful, sweet episode that focuses on the humanity within Moe so well.
Overall, there are some good episodes in this fourteenth season for sure. However, most are very mediocre and just passable without offering anything original or memorable. This is where the show slipped in quality significantly.
Worst Episodes: The Strong Arms of the Ma, Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington and Dude, Where’s My Ranch?
Best Episodes: Treehouse of Horror XIII, Special Edna, Three Gays of the Condo and Moe Baby Blues.
My Rating – 3.4
