The Seven Cities of Cibola Review

The Seven Cities of Cibola Review

The Seven Cities of Cibola a 1954 Disney comic book written and drawn by Carl Barks. It is one of the more forgettable Uncle Scrooge comics.

Scrooge and the Ducks go hunting Indian arrowheads and stumble onto jewels from the Seven Cities of Cibola. When they go searching for the Cities in the desert, they are followed by the Beagle Boys, who have overheard them talking about the fabulous treasure. The illustration work done on this issue is as beautiful as ever with the setting being so well brought to life. The sense of adventure is retained too.

But my issue with this story is that it’s too similar to the previous stories. I found Scrooge’s final scene too out of character for him as he would never leave money like that. The Beagle Boys are underutilized here and the same goes for all characters, though the sense of adventure elevated all these issues to a degree. The second story in this issue is very short, but actually quite funny.

The Seven Cities of Cibola has great illustration work and a strong adventure, but the characterization and plot left a lot to be desired.

My Rating – 3.8
