The Scarlet Pumpernickel (1950)
The Scarlet Pumpernickel Review
The Scarlet Pumpernickel is a 1950 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an amazing flick.
This historical short is rather famous and considered among the greatest cartoons ever produced. I personally wouldn’t go that far, at least not for now, because it is very chaotic of a cartoon. Yes, it has all these amazing, iconic characters in one movie from Elmer and Porky to Daffy and Sylvester, but most are thus underutilized and frankly disappointing.
However, Sylvester is quite memorable in his sequences and quite amusing. Daffy of course steals the show, but his screen time is also the longest. His lines here are increasingly more hilarious, and the entire framework of a story is very clever and original. I particularly liked the animation here, the action and of course that entire third act which was so funny how silly it was.
The Scarlet Pumpernickel has too many characters in it, but Daffy steals the show with many great lines plus the ending is terrific.
