The Reckless Driver Review

The Reckless Driver Review

The Reckless Driver is a 1946 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid short.

Woody has to pass a driving test and the officer is none other than Wally Walrus. The series continues to pit these two against each other to very amusing results. This short actually started better than it ended. As Woody drove around the town, some of those gags that defy physics were included and all were wonderful.

The rest of the short settled into the standard fight between the two. I liked Wally being an officer quite a bit and some of the gags were excellent, especially the one where he checked the woodpecker’s sight. But the ending was lackluster and disappointing and I wished that the plane action was included earlier.

The Reckless Driver has an excellent first half, but a weaker second one. It’s another fun Woody-Walrus pairing.

My Rating – 3.7
