The Plastics Inventor Review

The Plastics Inventor Review

The Plastics Inventor is a 1944 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is such an odd cartoon.

Donald melts down plastic to build a functional homemade airplane, following the instructions of Professor Butterfield on the radio. I know that cartoons are supposed to have illogical physics and science behind them, but most of the best cartoons manage to elevate above that to create something hilarious. This one, however, failed to do that as the movie is not funny at all and it felt tonally strange.

The scenes with the plastics were odd and they simply did not work. The plane scenes were quite adventurous and fun, but I would have loved them to have belonged to another movie with a better storyline. Donald is quite endearing as always and the animation is admittedly stellar, but the plot and gags left a lot to be desired here.

The Plastics Inventor looks great and it has its solid moments, but the plot simply did not work and it quickly fell apart.

My Rating – 3.4
