The Pet Store (1933)
The Pet Store Review
The Pet Store is a 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty solid entry.
Now this is one of the last Mickey Mouse entries to feature that approach where the first half consists of one song and dance and the second one introduces the plot and action. Needless to say, I have never liked such an approach as it leads to a jarring experience and here again that first half is just dull filler.
However, the second half is terrific as it parodies ‘King Kong’ released that year so stupendously. The ape himself is memorable, but the action is fantastic. They literally gave us that famous last scene in the film but here the ape climbs the crate and is attacked by birds instead of planes. It is all very well incorporated into the pet store itself.
The Pet Store is dull in its first half, but a great parody in its second half with memorable action and setting.
