The New Deal Show (1937)
The New Deal Show Review
The New Deal Show is a 1937 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty forgettable cartoon.
Betty Boop produces a pet show in which the pets use unusual devices to assist them in their normal behavior. This movie is not just familiar, but it functioned as a rehash of ‘Betty Boop’s Crazy Inventions’, a film that was much more innovative and memorable. This one lacked that authenticity factor.
The animation is stellar and the tap dancing that Betty performs is so much fun. This is the only time she did this and it was quite glorious to behold. But everything else here was subpar. Not only are the gags uninspired, but they also felt too familiar with the animals being underutilized. The short was in desperate need of more memorable personalities.
