The Mysterious Stone Ray Review

The Mysterious Stone Ray a 1954 Disney comic book written and drawn by Carl Barks. It is one of the more flawed Uncle Scrooge comics.

Uncle Scrooge and his nephews venture to a mysterious island, where they discover a scientist with a ray that turns people to stone. This story had a lot of potential, but how it was wrapped up was rather rushed. It needed more cooking in the oven. This is further proof that Uncle Scrooge comics usually are too short and I would prefer them to be a bit longer myself.

With that being said, I really enjoyed this story, even though it’s very silly. The scientist duck was quite intriguing and I wanted more of him. The Beagle Boys were used in a different way than usual here, being the victims themselves. The island setting was very well utilized and Scrooge was at his more compassionate in this adventure. There is another story in this particular issue, but that one is quite uninteresting.

The Mysterious Stone Ray is rushed and flawed, but it still featured a solid, adventurous story and an interesting scientist duck character.

My Rating – 3.9
