The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation (2005)
The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation Review
The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation is a 2005 Oscar winning animated short film directed by John Canemarker. It’s not great.
The film follows an imagined conversation between a father and his son. The father has died and was abusive toward him and they discuss that along with many other things. This is another animated biopic that won this Oscar after ‘Ryan’ and it is another undeserved one. The film is not bad, but it certainly isn’t great either.
I liked the themes explored in this film and it definitely is an interesting conversation to be had. However, the animation itself is weak and uninspired. I dislike this style of live-action mixed animation and the use of photos instead of original animation. The film felt very lazy and cheap in that regard. And it’s also way too long as it becomes pretty boring by the last 28th minute mark.
The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation is an undeserved Oscar winner with solid themes, but uninteresting animation and overblown runtime.
