The Little Shop of Horrors Movie Review
The Little Shop of Horrors is a 1960 comedy film directed by Roger Corman. It’s not a particularly good movie. It’s only passable.

It is a farceĀ about an inadequate florist’s assistant who cultivates a plant that feeds on human blood. Needless to say, the plot is very silly. I found it serviceable and definitely charming in its own modest way, but still the film became too much of a farce for me to handle.
That’s because the entire movie was shot in just two days and on a very small budget so of course it doesn’t look, and in particular it doesn’t sound all that good. It shows that it was cheap and unfortunately it could never escape that budgetary confinement.
I found the characters too annoying as these Jewish people aren’t particularly interesting, realistic or funny. The acting is particularly weak, though sometimes good, but mostly just very mediocre. Some of the character interactions I found solid and the plant itself is excellent and a lot of fun, but overall the characterization should have been much better.
The Little Shop of Horrors features very repetitive humor and dialogue, overall it definitely needed to have been more memorable and more eventful. It’s short and brisk which is a good thing as it’s never boring, but it’s also slight that way and lacking any momentum to it.

I found the cinematography and the score overall solid for such a small budget. I liked how the plant looked and the voice for it was also pretty cool as well as amusing. I wanted more such scenes as all others weren’t as fun in any shape or form. Overall, it’s a very limited movie in its appeal and I simply did not find it all that funny.
The Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy which has a very limited appeal, and for me it was often too annoying than genuinely amusing. Some of its scenes worked quite well and it’s charming in its own right, but it overall sounded too cheap and repetitive with weak acting as well.
