The Lemming with the Locket Review

The Lemming with the Locket Review

The Lemming with the Locket a 1955 Disney comic book written and drawn by Carl Barks. It is one of the more forgettable Uncle Scrooge comics.

This is the weakest entry up until this point in the series run. Both of the stories in this comic are quite solid, but none are particularly memorable or truly great. The titular story is all about the gang pursuing the lemming who accidentally took the locket that contains a code to Scrooge’s vault. The beginning of this story was delightful as it concerned Scrooge’s safety protocols, but the lemming-centered action was silly and way too implausible. And it all ended way too briskly.

The second story is all about animal racing where Scrooge wants to come across as generous, but not give away any money in the process. The moments where he and his rival tried to become thinner quickly were the comedic highlights, but the rest of the story was lackluster and this segment also ended with a whimper.

The Lemming with the Locket is one of the weaker early Uncle Scrooge comics. Both stories were solid, but far from truly great or memorable.

My Rating – 3.5
