The Hillbilly Hare (1950)
The Hillbilly Hare Review
The Hillbilly Hare is a 1950 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, but not great flick.
Bugs Bunny fools a couple of hillbillies by making them do violent things with musical instruction. What I loved here is the score of course. It features classic country music that is memorable and very well utilized into the whole action. Bugs is also terrific here at his usually manipulative.
However, the hillbillies themselves, though phenomenally designed, are forgettable when all is said and done as they’re overly passive characters. The whole film is repetitive in its action as it never introduces anything new and the ending was a missed opportunity for a darker, more memorable finale.
The Hillbilly Hare is definitely solid and well executed, but it is repetitive in the overall action.
