The Great Train Robbery (1903)
The Great Train Robbery
This is the movie that is not only the first Western ever but also can be considered the first blockbuster.
And yes, it is a bit too fast-paced and action-oriented like a blockbuster, but that action is very well handled, especially for the time. And it is very engaging and entertaining from start to finish. But it is not famous for that, it is famous because it is so well filmed and of course for the ending which is undeniably iconic, so memorable and authentic in its execution. It is well shot and although somewhat abrupt in the beginning, it’s also incredibly well directed and deftly paced.
