The Eager Beaver (1946)
The Eager Beaver Review
The Eager Beaver is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a standard short.
It follows the shenanigans of two beavers who are building a dam. There is nothing here to remind you that this is a 40s flick as it seems like a 30s film in its one-off characters and situational humor. I did find it solid, but at this point in the game solid isn’t enough and I wanted much more. It’s overly short and not memorable enough in its sequences.
Though there is that one moment with the crow where it rattles and we see a translation in English on the screen and it’s a warning about the flood. That was hilarious and quite inventive. I liked the beavers themselves and their manic energy and the film’s solidly animated, but the action is mostly uninspired.
The Eager Beaver has its moments and solid characters, but weaker action and overly short runtime.
