The Dragon Prince Season 6 Review
The sixth season of The Dragon Prince premiered on Netflix in 2024. It’s the best season since the third one and a great return to form for this series.
The reason why this season worked so well lies in its plot that feels epic and important. Yes, the first half was somewhat slow and the pacing is all over the place here, but so many crucial things happen during the second half of this season that not only were spectacular and moving to witness, but they also beautifully set up the next season that will hopefully close off the Mystery of Aaravos arc well.

I loved everything that they did with Viren. It would be too much to pad out his story more, so they actually killed him off and in such a heroic manner that at least somewhat redeemed him from his atrocious past. I loved his flashbacks that show us how horribly he treated Soren. These scenes offered a deep insight into their fraught relationship. Soren was very interesting this time around.
I also loved that they did not redeem Claudia. She had a chance, but chose to pursue the dark side once again, which finally led to the physical return of Aaravos himself. That sequence where he finally appeared was truly epic as he looked huge and menacing. The show really knows how to end each and every season and this was another superb hook for the next installment. His origin story was truly heartbreaking and it added a layer of complexity to his character that I did not expect.

Callum and Rayla get a lot of time to explore their relationship, but these moments were mostly filler for me personally. I like them as a couple, but I prefer for the show to focus on action and fantasy instead of romantic and comedic elements. The two, thus, did not feel essential to this season that was otherwise quite strong. But the episode set in the broken ship was definitely impactful.
I wished that they explored the celestial elves better as they felt underdeveloped to me and not all that interesting. The world building continues to be pretty strong, but still some elements felt rushed and these elves needed a better arc. As for the sun elves, they were always boring to me, but at least they killed off one major character here and the Sol Regem dragon scenes were cool. The lesbian wedding took out way too much of the runtime needlessly so.

Visually, the show improves with each season. There are some very cool backgrounds and effects that we get here. The score is as terrific as ever. The voice acting is top-notch too. The pacing is not the greatest and some of the humor was immature, but at least this season was less comedic and more dramatic. It was also darker than ever, which I really appreciated as an adult.
Overall, the sixth season of The Dragon Prince is the best one since the third season. It has its pacing issues and some storylines did not fully work, but Viren’s arc was fantastic and the final hook for the next season was truly spectacular. It’s a darker and more impactful season in plot and characterization and a great setup for the next one.
Worst Episodes: Startouched and Love, War & Mushrooms.
