The Draft Horse (1942)
The Draft Horse Review
The Draft Horse is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, but far from great entry.
This is yet another war picture as those are becoming abundant having in mind that this is the year of 1942. And although I am really getting tired of these films, this one is somewhat different for taking a horse instead of a human character and not focusing too much on propaganda thankfully. It’s still not a particularly funny film, though, as the humor is highly lacking.
I found the main character somewhat annoying. He is definitely very memorable and well developed for such an unimportant one-off character, but still he annoyed me. The animation is good, though somewhat uninspired. The score is excellent, on the other hand, and it made the film a more lively affair for sure. The ending is also pretty good.
The Draft Horse is somewhat annoying in its main character and not inspired overall, but it’s solid enough with good ending and particularly strong score.
