The Bee-Deviled Bruin (1949)
The Bee-Deviled Bruin Review
The Bee-Deviled Bruin is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very odd flick.
This short follows the three bears trying to get the honey, but one of them wants ketchup, chaos ensues… and I lost track of what was going on pretty quickly. I do realize that this family is crazy, yes, but the film is hitting us over the head, hammering that point home aggressively that I lost patience with it.
I did like some of their character interactions, and as a family, as a group they are terrific, though individually they suffer. Some moments here are quite funny with the honey and all, but the finale is too chaotic for my taste. I loved the animation and the voice acting, but I wanted a stronger plot and pacing.
The Bee-Deviled Bruin is definitely very odd and weirdly put together, but it also does have its amusing moments and character interactions.
